Barranquilla Carnival

Barranquilla Carnival is the largest and most important festival ofBarranquilla, the most festive and colorful Colombia, besides beingone of the most recognized in the world. More than a million and halfpeople, visitors and Barranquilla participate in the party. It takes place from Saturday through Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, usually in February and sometimes early March. Has a tradition ofover a hundred years. The carnival season begins the second Saturday of January, when public holidays begin and festivities, however, other activities directly related to the carnival happenduring much of the year. [1]


Origin and evolution
 
Float in the Battle of Carnival Flores.El born of the merger between the old pagan festivals and the Catholic tradition. It is an event where the party and the fun comes first, before entering the austere time of Lenten penance. During Carnival, people dress up in an act of fun and uninhibited. The traditional costumes of the Carnival of Barranquilla marimonda, scribbles, Congo, the bull and monocuco, the latter of European origin. Are a source of laughter and scares all kinds of animal species, native and foreign, black Africans, big heads, insane; muñecotas, super-heroes, mythological beings, gay and Death, among an almost endless. Features Barranquilla Carnival masks are bull, tiger and bear for, among others. The satirical costumes and alluding to current events are a source of collective hilarity and cause great anticipation each year.
